Translation & Interpretation Services

Glendale Unified School District offers Translation & Interpretation Services by qualified/certified individuals to the schools and departments so that families and community may have the information and resources needed to become more knowledgeable and better support their children's education.

Translation Services is the written translation of documents from one language to another. Such documents translated in GUSD include, but are not limited to, meeting/event flyers, school/district informational documents, IEPs, etc.

Interpretation Services is the oral interpretation (simultaneous and consecutive) performed at school and district-sponsored meetings and events.

Services are provided in Arabic, Armenian, Korean, and Spanish as well as ASL and most other languages.

  • In Glendale Unified School District, there are more than 50 languages other than English spoken across the 20+ schools in GUSD where translation and interpretation services are available.

By California Education Code 48985(a):  "If 15% or more of the pupils enrolled in a public school that provides instruction in kindergarten of any of grades 1 to 12, inclusive, speak a single primary language other than English, as determined from the census data submitted to the department pursuant to Section 52164 in the preceding year, all notices, reports, statements, or records sent to the parent or guardian of any such pupil by the school or school district shall, in addition to being written in English, be written in the primary language, and may be responded to in either English or the primary language."
