Community Leaders Join GUSD for Annual Principal for a Day Event

The Glendale Educational Foundation (GEF), in partnership with Glendale Unified (GUSD), hosted its annual Principal for a Day event on Tuesday, February 24. The day welcomes community leaders from across Glendale into the district's 30 schools to step into the role of a school principal for the morning. For more than 21 years, leaders and partners from across the Glendale community have taken part in this longstanding tradition, representing a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences.
The 2026 event featured several special, memorable moments across the district. At Fremont Elementary, Brisket, the Glendale Police Department’s beloved Facility dog, made his debut as Principal for a Day, visiting classrooms alongside his handler, Amy Tate. Students eagerly asked questions about Brisket and his duties with GPD, and many were thrilled to give him a well-deserved pat and receive a sticker to remember the day. The visit brought smiles, excitement, and plenty of wagging tails throughout the campus. Meanwhile, at Wilson Middle School, longtime district leader Kris Kholmeier returned to GUSD for the day, stepping back into the role of principal, just for the morning. He visited classrooms, shared stories about his time at Wilson, and led the morning announcements for a true full-circle moment for the Wilson community.
Other guest principals included visitors from the Glendale Police Department, YMCA of the Foothills, Crescenta Valley Weekly, Dignity Health, and several other community organizations and local partners. Principal for a Day showcases the dedication and engagement of our community leaders, local professionals, and volunteers who dedicate their time to support Glendale Unified Schools. From visiting classrooms to observing campus operations and engaging with students, our community members got to have a firsthand experience of GUSD schools and the wonderful learning environments that make GUSD so special. Their involvement highlights the strength of the partnership between the district and the Glendale community and reinforces a shared commitment to student success. Glendale Unified looks forward to continuing this longstanding tradition, bringing together educators, leaders, and community members for many years to come.
