A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT:
Dear Glendale Unified Students, Staff, Families, and Community:
We understand how challenging the last few weeks have been for our students, families, and employees. We appreciate your support and patience, and remain committed to providing you with information and resources as we receive them. Today, the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Duardo announced in a media release her recommendation to extend closure of all public schools until Tuesday, May 5, 2020 to help contain the spread of COVID-19. Superintendent Duardo’s action follows new public health orders issued March 19 by Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles County officials instructing people to stay at home and prohibiting gatherings of more than 10 people.
The Board of Education and our district leadership are committed to ensuring the health and safety of our entire Glendale Unified community. We take recommendations from state and local health and education authorities very seriously. Therefore, we have decided to keep schools closed and extend off-campus, remote learning activities until Tuesday, May 5. Our student schedule for the coming weeks will be as follows:
Our Nutritional Services Department will serve breakfast and lunch for students Monday-Friday, beginning March 24 and continuing until schools reopen. Meals will be distributed at grab-and-go centers located at several of our school sites. Find locations and additional information at www.gusd.net/meals.
Information for Students and Families
We have developed a remote learning information hub at www.gusd.net/remotelearning, which includes learning resources and important information about technology access, meal services, and mental health support. Check this website frequently and follow us @GlendaleUSD on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates.
Our top priorities right now are to ensure our students and employees are healthy and safe, our students maintain continuity of education, and our highest-need families receive healthy meals and access to necessities. Stay healthy and continue to look out for each other in the coming weeks.
Vivian Ekchian, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
