October 11, 2021: GTA Negotiations Update

Posted Date: 07/18/2023

On Monday, October 11, Glendale Unified school and district leaders met with members of the Glendale Teachers Association (GTA) bargaining team to discuss a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to responsibilities and compensation for union members when student quarantine is necessary.

At Glendale Unified’s request, GTA submitted an update to their initial proposal from September 9. The revised proposal includes a $5,000 one-time payment to all unit members for the 2021-22 school year. As a next step, the Glendale Unified and the Board of Education will assess the impacts of this proposal on the District budget. The District requested GTA provide a date for the next negotiation session, but GTA declined.

Everyone in Glendale Unified is working harder and longer in order to provide equitable learning opportunities for all children. This includes ensuring that our quarantined students, who must be out of school in order to protect themselves, their peers, and school staff, have what they need to be successful during pivots to short term virtual instruction. We are hopeful that we can quickly come to agreement with GTA so our focus can be fully on our students.
