October 6, 2021: GTA Negotiations Update

Posted Date: 07/18/2023

On Wednesday, October 6, Glendale Unified school and district leaders met with members of the Glendale Teachers Association (GTA) bargaining team to discuss a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to responsibilities and compensation for union members when student quarantine is necessary.

Since GTA submitted their initial proposal on September 9, Glendale Unified has made significant changes to student quarantine based on updated guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Additionally, GTA has indicated their intent to sunshine a wage proposal in the near future. Based on these developments, the District has requested that GTA submit a revised MOU proposal related to quarantine and that all matters of compensation, including those related to the District’s Continuity of Learning Plan, be discussed during upcoming wage negotiations.

Glendale Unified is committed to ensuring all students have equitable access to learning opportunities and all teachers are compensated fairly and have the support they need to pivot to short term virtual instruction in the event of a partial class quarantine. The District will provide all teachers with necessary technology for concurrent instruction, and provide any teachers who are new to the District with up to 30 hours of additional preparation time, compensated at their hourly rate of pay, to learn new instructional strategies.

Everyone in Glendale Unified is working harder and longer in order to ensure that our quarantined students, who must be out of school in order to protect themselves, their peers, and school staff, have what they need to be successful during pivots to short term virtual instruction. We are hopeful that we can quickly come to agreement with GTA so our focus can be fully on our students.
