Nayiri Nahabedian Assumes Role as Glendale Unified Board of Education President

Nayiri NahabedianGLENDALE, CA – On Tuesday, April 19, the Glendale Unified Board of Education completed their annual rotation of officers and Nayiri Nahabedian assumed her new role as Board President for 2022-23. Ms. Nahabedian takes over the position from outgoing Board President Shant Sahakian.

Ms. Nahabedian was elected to the Glendale Unified Board of Education in 2007. In her time as a board member, she has consistently advocated for inclusion and equity for all children. She has been a champion for growing the district’s dual language immersion programs, expanding mental health services, and spotlighting the importance of financial literacy. In 2018, she led the effort to launch the Glendale Unified College Success Fund, which provides a college savings account for every first grader in the district. She also initiated and championed the California Kids Investment and Development Savings program (CalKIDS), a trailblazing initiative that will provide every child born in California with a savings account and a seed deposit.

Ms. Nahabedian has more than 20 years of experience as an educator and currently serves on the faculty at California State University, Los Angeles School of Social Work. She has dedicated her personal and professional life to improving the lives of the children and families in the Glendale Unified community and beyond.
