Glendale Unified Reaches Tentative Agreement with Glendale Teachers Association

GLENDALE, CA – Glendale Unified School District and Glendale Teachers Association bargaining teams have reached a tentative agreement on a contract for the 2020-23 school years. The tentative agreement includes three separate compensation increases for GTA members: a 4.5% one-time compensation increase for the 2020-21 school year, a 3.5% ongoing raise retroactive to the 2021-22 school year, and a 5% ongoing raise in the current 2022-23 school year. When combined with a benefits package valued at over $34,000 per year, per employee, Glendale teachers’ compensation is the highest in the region.

Additionally, GUSD and GTA tentatively agreed to several stipend and hourly rate increases, including:

  • Increased stipend for special education, dual language immersion, and split grade level teachers, and other special education service providers
  • Increased stipend for teacher specialists
  • Increased stipend for elementary teacher/assistant to the principal
  • Increased hourly rate of pay for professional development instructors
  • Increased hourly rate of pay for categorical program instruction
  • Increased hourly rate of pay for attending professional development, planning for tutoring/ intervention
  • Increased stipend for National Board Certified Teachers and consulting teachers
  • Increased doctoral stipend
  • Stipend for secondary teachers who have two prep periods on the same day in a block schedule

“Our Board of Education, district leadership, administrators, educators, and staff are unified in our commitment to an equity-focused agenda that gives our students voice and choice in their academic endeavors,” said Glendale Unified Superintendent Dr. Vivian Ekchian. “I am  pleased that we have come to a tentative agreement that competitively compensates our GTA employees for the hard work they do every day.”

As a next step, GTA membership will vote on the tentative agreement, after which the agreement will be submitted to the Glendale Unified Board of Education for approval.
