On December 21, members of the Glendale Unified and GTA bargaining teams met in-person with a mediator from the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), the first step in the impasse process. No proposals were exchanged at this mediation session. Each bargaining team spent the day introducing their proposals and sharing information with the mediator separately in preparation for future sessions. A second mediation date will be tentatively scheduled for mid-January.
During the past year of negotiations, Glendale Unified has negotiated in good faith the issues raised by GTA leadership and agreed to many of their requests. Glendale Unified offered a wage proposal that includes three separate compensation increases for GTA members and revised contract language that improves safety and ensures equitable access to educational opportunities for every student. You can find specific details about Glendale Unified’s wage and contract proposals here.
As Glendale Unified strongly believes there is a good faith contract offer on the table, we look forward to the transparent review of the outstanding items by the mediator and are hopeful that this process will bring this nearly year-long negotiation to a swift close.
