Congratulations Class of 2021!

Dear Glendale Unified Students, Families, Employees, and Community Members,

Congratulations to our graduating and promoting class of 2021! We are extremely proud of the achievements and resilience of our amazing students, particularly our graduating seniors. Time and again, our students have demonstrated their ability to excel academically and shine brilliantly. This year, Mountain Avenue Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School and Clark Magnet High School was recognized as a California Distinguished School. All four Glendale Unified comprehensive high schools ranked among the top high schools nationwide by U.S. News & World Report and 23 of our schools were named to the Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll for high achievement and student success. Our students have received top honors and been nationally recognized for academics, athletics, the arts, and Career and Technical Education programs.

This has been an extraordinary year and I want to thank each and every one of you for everything you have done on behalf of our students. In Glendale Unified schools, we celebrate diversity, focus on equity, and foster a positive culture of learning to prepare our students for success in college, career, and life. We are proud to offer innovative programs, including dual immersion in seven languages, magnet schools focused on technology and the arts, and opportunities for dual college enrollment. This year, three of our middle schools joined the Verizon Innovative Learning program, and we developed our new Online College and Career Academy which will be launching in August. Our students leave our schools ready to grow into independent, resourceful, culturally conscious leaders of tomorrow.

To the class of 2021, without a doubt, we are living in one of the most exciting, promising, and challenging times in human history. The 21st century world is more globally connected, technology-driven, and complex than any previous era. I have every confidence that you, our amazing graduating seniors, will go on to excel in your chosen careers, affect positive change, and create a brighter future for generations to come.

I am incredibly proud of our Glendale Unified community and honored to serve as your superintendent. We are excelling together to provide our students with endless pathways for success!

Sincerely,

Vivian Ekchian, Ed.D.
