Dear Glendale Unified Students, Employees, Families, and Community,
In honor of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, I would like to recognize the incredible contributions of our LGBTQ+ community and also reaffirm Glendale Unified School District’s commitment to ensuring that each and every one of our students, employees, and family members feels welcomed, valued, safe, supported, and included in our Glendale Unified community. During Pride Month, and all year long, we hope you will join us in celebrating and recognizing our dynamic LGBTQ+ community, raising awareness, and fostering dialogue to promote a safe and healthy community for all.
In Glendale Unified schools, we embrace diversity, focus on equity, and guarantee safety to accelerate learning and increase pathways for every student. All students have a right to attend school in a learning environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, violence, and intimidation. The Glendale Unified Board of Education has established a policy declaring that discrimination, including discrimination against an individual or group based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or socioeconomic status, will not be tolerated on our campuses. On June 1, the Board adopted a further resolution Proclaiming June 2021 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Glendale Unified School District and supporting our LGBTQ+ community.
It is important that we embrace each other’s differences, advocate for one another, and be mindful of how our words and actions might affect others as we work together to build a stronger Glendale Unified community. Our schools will continue to be safe spaces where every student can learn and thrive.
