Response to the Devastating Events at our Nation's Capital
January 7, 2021
Dear Glendale Unified Students, Staff, Families, and Community:
As we welcome our students and teachers back to school in a distance learning environment, and following the devastating events at our nation’s capital yesterday, I want to reaffirm Glendale Unified School District’s commitment to providing a safe learning environment for all students. No matter what challenges we are facing as a nation, in Glendale Unified we are resolute in our commitment to protect every child’s mental health and wellbeing and provide students with an education that prepares them for success in college, career, and life.
We are a diverse school district that welcomes students and families from all over the world. It is important that we embrace each other’s differences and be mindful of how our words and actions might affect others. Differences of opinion and the thoughtful and respectful sharing of ideas will always be welcome in our schools. However, discrimination, harassment, bullying, violence, and intimidation of any kind will not be tolerated. Our campuses and distance learning environments will continue to be safe spaces where every child can learn and thrive.
In Glendale Unified schools, we embrace diversity, focus on equity, and guarantee safety to accelerate learning and increase pathways for every student. This has been a challenging year on many fronts. As we continue to respect and support one another, I know we will rise above these experiences as an even stronger Glendale Unified community.
