Glendale Unified Joins Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Program

In partnership with Digital Promise, Verizon Innovative Learning will welcome Roosevelt, Toll, and Wilson Middle Schools in the Glendale Unified School District for the 2020-2021 school year.

GLENDALE, CA – Glendale Unified School District has been selected to join Verizon Innovative Learning Schools, Verizon's education initiative targeting under-resourced middle schools across the country. As part of the program, Roosevelt, Toll, and Wilson Middle Schools will be provided with a comprehensive education package that includes a Chromebook for every student and teacher, up to a four-year data plan on each device, access to technology-rich curricula that provides a personalized learning experience and extensive professional development for teachers. A full-time technology coach in each school, partially funded through Verizon Innovative Learning, partners with teachers to provide ongoing support to effectively integrate the technology in classroom instruction.

“The Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program will give our students the capacity to expand their digital literacy and continue learning beyond the classroom, while empowering teachers to guide them along the way,” said Glendale Unified Superintendent Dr. Vivian Ekchian. “We are very excited to partner with Verizon Innovative Learning and Digital Promise to provide this opportunity for our students and teachers.”

Since 2014, Verizon, in partnership with Digital Promise, has launched this initiative in 152 middle schools nationwide. Roosevelt, Toll, and Wilson are among 100 new schools expected to join Verizon Innovative Learning for the 2020-2021 school year. Verizon Innovative Learning aims to enhance student engagement and improve student academic performance. Over the course of the initiative, Verizon Innovative Learning intends to also provide the opportunity for students to learn emerging technologies such as augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence, 3D design and the Internet of Things.
