Speaker Biographies

  • Laurel Bear, Ph.D

    Laurel Bear, Ph.D. | created the sustainable, all-encompassing Gateway To Success Program, in the Alhambra School District, (AUSD), where she retired as the Assistant Superintendent, Student/Employee Welfare, after 38 years.  The Gateway Program was created during challenging school budget times, similar to what we are currently experiencing, with multiple student languages and many under-insured or uninsured students.  

    Her practice has always been to collaborate together with school communities in order to make a difference and to give more to help students to not only survive but flourish.  She currently is working as an Educational Consultant for the LA Department of Mental Health.  

    Aden Michael

    Aden Michael | is a Licensed Social Worker whose experiences including working with diverse institutions from education systems to housing and diverse populations including children and families impacted by HIV/AIDS to survivors of human trafficking.  Aden’s involvement in social justice extends outside of DMH through initiatives such as the California Regional Training Institute, which seeks to build capacity in individuals and communities to be active agents of change through education, arts, and service.

    Geraldine Gomez

    Geraldine Gómez | is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty years of experience in the field of Social Work. As a Social Worker, she has provided direct in-office and filed based services including crisis response as a part of the Psychiatric Mobile Response Team (PMRT).  Geraldine has been certified as a Suicide Prevention trainer by LivingWorks and the American Association of Suicidology.  She is certified in Somatic Experiencing and pursuing certification in Systematic Constellations.  Geraldine is currently employed with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.  

    Corrine Ochipinti

    Corrine Ochipinti | is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has focused the majority of her career serving vulnerable and at-risk populations, primarily children and families. Before becoming a social worker, Corrine was a teacher in a public middle school, a domestic violence shelter, and a migrant education program.  As a social worker, Corrine has experience with the adult homeless population of Los Angeles, crisis response work, and trauma-informed care with children and families.  Corrine currently works with the LA County Department of Mental Health in the School-Based Community Access Platform, where she supports addressing the mental health needs of school communities in LA County through developing training, collaborating with schools, and providing.

    Victoria Montenegro

    Victoria Montenegro | is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has experience providing trauma-informed mental health services to probation youth and their families at a residential treatment facility. She is also an advocate for the student-athlete population, providing mental health education to create awareness for teams, coaches, and athletes.
