It is Yellow Ribbon Week and we will celebrate Dr. King's message of peace and kindness all week. "Kindness is cool" and we will do many fun activites to remember kindness. On Wednesday, students can dress cool (with a cool attitude or for cool weather). On Friday, students can wear yellow (or Mountain Avenue blue). This week we will also work on the letter Ww and the sight word "and." We will also work on sorting and classifying objects in math and continue learning about weather and seasons in science. Our 100th day of school is coming up, and we will make a snack with 100 items. If you'd like to donate, please click on the link below. Thanks!

Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful vacation. First, I want to thank you all for the wonderful gifts. Your thoughtfulness is so appreciated! This week we will work on the letter Ll and the sight words "do" and "you." We will work on writing, addition, seasons, and begin to learn about Dr. Martin Luther King. We will have a few changes with the new year, including writing homework beginning this week. Please help your child write 1 - 2 sentences neatly and illustrate a picture. They may sound out words, but should spell sight words correctly and remember proper capitalization, spacing, and punctuation. Remember to work on sight word rings and to have your child bring them in once they can read each set...they can also use thier word rings to help with their writing homework! Let me know if you have any questions.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break. This week we will focus on the letter Ff and the sight words "go" and "here." We will share about our vacations, do an art project, and meet with our 5th grade buddies. As the holiday season begins, please let me know if you do not want your child to take part in projects that may involve holiday symbols (such as reindeer, Santa, etc.) or if they celebrate a particular holiday this season that we could learn about in class. We will learn about various holiday traditions and make a variety of projects. Remember that Friday is a minimum day and kindergarten dismissal is at 12:00 and the cafeteria is closed.

Because this is a short week, we will not have any homework. We will get our eyes and ears checked on Tuesday. We will review letters, sounds, sight words, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. We look forward to our potluck feast on Thursday at 11:15 and hope you can make it...families are welcome! Remember there is no school for students on Friday, but I will begin parent-teacher conferences on that day and look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your child. Have a great Thanksgiving and see you after the break!

This week we will work on the letter/ sound Gg and the sight word "come." We get to visit the art room, the 6th grade "wax museum," and will also learn about Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. Please join us on Thursday, November 15th at 11:15 for a short performance and potluck feast. Details are in the homework folder. Remember to sign up for a parent-teacher conference and, if you haven't already, please consider donating to MACK. MACK donations provide many of the programs our students use, including IXL, classroom supplies, counselors, etc.  Our MACK drive ends on Thursday and our class has had great participation so far. The classroom with the most participation earns extra recess and we are close, so please help our class and our school. Any donation amount helps! Thank you!
