Because this is a short week, we will not have any homework. We will get our eyes and ears checked on Tuesday. We will review letters, sounds, sight words, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. We look forward to our potluck feast on Thursday at 11:15 and hope you can make it...families are welcome! Remember there is no school for students on Friday, but I will begin parent-teacher conferences on that day and look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your child. Have a great Thanksgiving and see you after the break!

This week we will work on the letter/ sound Gg and the sight word "come." We get to visit the art room, the 6th grade "wax museum," and will also learn about Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. Please join us on Thursday, November 15th at 11:15 for a short performance and potluck feast. Details are in the homework folder. Remember to sign up for a parent-teacher conference and, if you haven't already, please consider donating to MACK. MACK donations provide many of the programs our students use, including IXL, classroom supplies, counselors, etc.  Our MACK drive ends on Thursday and our class has had great participation so far. The classroom with the most participation earns extra recess and we are close, so please help our class and our school. Any donation amount helps! Thank you!

This week we will focus on the letter Ii, the sight words "he" and "she," writing about Halloween, and representing and ordering numbers 1 - 10. On Wednesday, we will have our school Halloween Parade at 8:30 a.m. Students may wear their costumes, but please follow the guidelines sent in last week's Thursday folder (e.g. no masks or play weapons) and please have appropriate clothes either under the costume or in your child's backpack so they can change after the parade. Parents are welcome to attend! Please also remember to not send candy to school for snack. Finally, this Thursday check the web site and/or Thursday folder to sign up for a parent conference next month. I look forward to talking with you about your child! Happy Halloween!

This week we will focus on the letter Dd and the sight word "like." It is Red Ribbon Week, so we will talk about having healthy bodies and eating healthy. To reinforce this, please remember to not send candy to school. To help us celebrate and remember these ideas, students have the option to dress like a tourist on Monday, wear their pajamas (and bring a small stuffed animal that fits into their backpack) to school on Tuesday (no slippers), dress crazy on Wednesday, and wear red on Thursday. There is no school for students on Friday. Get ready for Halloween...on October 31st, students may dress up and take part in our school wide parade in the morning (no masks or violent costumes).

This week we will focus on the letter Cc and the sight words "the" and "can." We are focusing on comparing numbers 1 - 10 and determining which groups are greater, fewer, and equal. You can reinforce this at home by using this vocabulary to ask questions about groups of things at home. Wednesday is Walk to School Day! We will also sing at the MACK meeting on Wednesday evening. If you can come, please bring your child to Room 2108 by 6:15 and then we will see you in the auditorium for our performance!

The students did a great job while I was out last week due to a family emergency. I am happy to be back! This week we will focus on the letter Pp and the sight word "the." We will learn about pumpkins this month and will do some Halloween themed activities. If you do not want your child to participate in Halloween (not scary) activities, please let me know. This Friday is our first school spirit's Sports Day! It is optional and students can wear a sports jersey or choose to wear blue, as we usually do on Fridays. We also hope you can join us the evening of October 10th. MACK will have it's first meeting and TK and Kindergarten students have an opportunity to perform. It is voluntary, but come see us sing and attend your first MACK meeting, too.

Happy beginning of Fall! We will learn about Autumn, Johnny Appleseed, and make some Fall projects this week. If you happen to have any apples at home, please send one to school by Thursday, if possible (if you don't have one, don't worry...I have extras!) We will also learn about our five senses and how we can use them to help us make scientific observations. We will also focus on the letter Nn and the sight words "my" and "the."
