This week we are reviewing sight words and reading our small group plays. Please have your child practice their lines at home and practice when to say them (which sentence comes before). We are also excited to see if our caterpillars will hatch! We hope to see you at Art Night and Open House on Thursday. Art Night begins at 6:00 and Open House begins at 6:30. The students have been working hard and I know will enjoy showing you their many projects. Please remember that Friday is a minimum day and pick up is at 12:00.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and I hope you got to come to the volunteer flag ceremony last Friday. This week we will work on "-ing" words, 3-D solid shapes, and learn more about American symbols and animals. We look forward to having breakfast with our moms or special someone this Friday morning right after flag ceremony. We hope to picnic at the park, but will have it in our classroom if it is raining. This is our last week of regular homework packets. Starting this week, students will have sharing every Friday. A topic paper to fill out will go home in the folder every Monday. Beginning next week, they will also have some reading practice and, if needed, anything extra they may need to either finish from the previous week or practice further (for example, extra practice in subtraction or writing numbers).

We hope all of our wonderful volunteers will join us on Friday morning at the Volunteer Appreciation ceremony. We will also go see the Dunk Squad do basketball tricks afterward at a special school assembly. Next Friday, May 10th, we hope to see all the moms (or special someone) at our Mother's Day Picnic from 9am to 10am. Bring a blanket and breakfast treat to enjoy with your child! We also say goodbye to our wonderful student teacher, Ms. Smith, this Friday. Finally, students will not bring books home anymore. Next week will be our last homework packet and instead we will work on reading a play and doing weekly sharing for the remainder of the year.

This week we will focus on the "th" sound and the sight words that, there and this. We will learn more about plants and hope to see our seeds sprouting! We will practice jumprope, read poems, write, and keep working on subtraction. Our field trip is on Tuesday. Please be sure to have your child dress comfortably, wear good walking shoes, and wear blue or their Mountain Avenue shirt, if possible. It may be cool, so layers would be a good idea. Please pack a disposable snack with disposable drink in a paper or plastic bag with their name on it. There will be no flag ceremonies during April due to testing in the upper grades.
