Franklin has two parent-run organizations: the PTA, which focuses on parent education, public education advocacy, and community building. PTA collects dues each fall, which help fund our PTA activities at Franklin (socials, meetings, etc.) as well as the Glendale, California, and National PTA organization. There is always FREE childcare at PTA meetings, which are usually held at 6pm several times a year.
The second organization is the BFEF, which was established in 2010 by parents as a nonprofit that would allow parents to apply for grants and do unrestricted fundraising. You can read a short timeline of BFEF here. Foundation is parent-run and unique to Franklin.
The money BFEF raises goes back to the school: we fund our international interns, teacher classroom supplies, music education for every student, our environmental education and garden, and enrichment activities like robotics, ceramics, newspaper club, and science/maker fairs. To pay for these programs, BFEF encourages monthly, sustaining donations at whatever level each family is comfortable with; we also run two major fundraisers throughout the year - the Fall Funds Drive/Dance-a-thon and our Gala and Auction in the spring.
