I have been a teacher at Hoover High School for about 15 years now! This year the courses I'm teaching include Biology 1-2 and BioScience (for ELD 1 and 2 students).
I graduated from Westmont College, Santa Barbara, with a Major in Biology and Minor in Communication Studies. Then I went on to the Monterey Institute of International Studies and got my Masters of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I also obtained my Professional Clear Secondary Single Subject Credential in Biology from Point Loma Nazarene University.
My passion is to help students from different background and ability learn. Being an ELD student myself when I was in high school, I understand the challenges, difficulties, and frustrations students who speak limited English face as they try to learn content material in a second, or third, language. I absolutely love it when the students in my classes acquire knowledge, learn new skills, and gain confidence as they learn about Biology, the study of living things and the world around them.
During my free time, I enjoy eating yummy food, spending time with friends and family, and watching TV shows and movies. I am a HUGE fan of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones, and all the late night talk shows. I also "enjoy" running and finished my first marathon in 2016. If I am disciplined enough, I would like to try a sprint trialthon at some point.
Every Tuesday and Thursday after school till 3:45pm in my room (11302).
