Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. DUIR, Amy
I’m Amy Duir, and this is my fourth year teaching in collaborative (co-taught) classrooms! I love being a part of the Wilson community. Here’s everything you need to know about my teaching philosophy:
- I believe EVERYONE can be a strong math student. We strengthen our math brain through training and practice, just like we strengthen our muscles when we exercise. Some of us are more naturally “mathletic” than others, it’s true. But with hard work and dedication, we can ALL develop our math skills and fluency.
- I value perseverance above anything in the classroom. Our rigorous curriculum sometimes makes us want to quit. When we stick with it, that’s when we really surprise ourselves. Mastering these math standards takes a lot of focus, discipline, and grit!
- Hard work is important. Self-care is also important. When we’re totally overwhelmed, that’s our body’s way of letting us know we need to make a change or do something soothing: take deep breaths, hug a friend, play a game, have a bath, pet a dog. Then you can come back renewed, and take things one step at a time. My hope is that my students learn to honor their emotions and take good care of themselves and those around them.
- Most importantly, I love dogs. Dogs make life better. Everyone should work hard in school so you can grow up, be successful, and afford lots of dogs.
