Ceramics

  • For at least 40 years, there has been a kiln at Glenoaks Elementary, and students have had the opportunity to make ceramics. Within the last decade, GESF has continued this legacy, by hiring a ceramics teacher and providing the materials to ensure that every student from the SDC up through 6th grade have an opportunity to express their creativity three dimensionally through the medium of clay. Optimally, the teacher meets with each class for two projects per school year. Many of these art experiences tie into the classroom curriculum, enriching studies and allowing students to connect to class material creatively. Projects regulary make cross curricular connections in Social Studies, Science and Math.

A note about the kiln shed mural: Megan McKiernan fulfilled her Gold Award by designing and painting the Dr. Seuss/Lorax themed mural on the shed. Justin Sparks aided her in the beatification project.
