    SUMMER SCHOOL 2020 INFORMATION

     

    Updated as of Wednesday, 3/25 due to COVID 19 school closures and social distancing.

    Information may change as needed. Please be patient and keep you and your families safe.

     

    GUSD Summer School:  Remedial courses, special Integrated Math Bridge Pathways, or Biotechnology

    Location:CVHS campus

    Dates: Semester 1: June 15th- June 30th

              Semester 2: July 1st- July 17th, July 3rd is a holiday

    Time: 7:45 a.m. -1:05 p.m. (APEX meets from 1:15 p.m.-3:15 p.m. and Biotech meets from 1:15 p.m. -5:45 p.m.)

    How to enroll: CVHS Counselors sent notifications to incoming students and current students who qualify for remedial summer programs. Please email signed summer school registration forms to your CV Counselor as soon as possible but no later than March 27th.

    GUSD summer school is offered for free to students who:

    • need to repeat F grades earned in graduation requirements
    • need extra support or remediation in English/ELD or math
    • qualify to take an Integrated Math Summer Bridge course or Biotechnology. 

     

     

    Enrichment and Advancement Summer School Programs:

    Please READ ALL INFORMATION and select the program that best fits your needs for summer school. 

     

    GEF Summer School:  A FEE based program with a traditional teacher/classroom

    Location: Crescenta Valley High School Campus

    Registration: March 1st- April 17th or until classes are full

    Register and pay online OR complete and mail paper forms and payment to the GEF office. 

    Forms and payment should be submitted to GEF directly and DO NOT NEED CVHS counselor approval.

    Please note:

    The Health class for incoming 9th grade students is a one semester course. Students should indicate a preference of Semester 1 or Semester 2 when registering. CVHS counselors will automatically remove Health and Human Geography from the 9th grade course requests and replace them with a year long alternate elective after summer enrollment is verified. 

    Transcripts/grades will automatically be transferred to CVHS by GEF Summer School at the end of July. 

     

    Other summer school programs: 

    Students MUST get prior approval from a CVHS counselor in order to take any summer course outside of the GUSD or GEF programs.

    We are collaborating with the GCC Garfield Campus Student Success Center and 3 publically funded independent study Charter Schools (Options for Youth-Pasadena location, Opportunites for Learning-Ramona/Irwindale location, and the OFL 100% Online Program) to provide free summer enrichment courses.

    • Please select the most appropriate/desired program.
    • Contact the desired school directly for more details about their programs, if needed.
    • Course offerings that CVHS will approve are listed on the request forms linked to this website.

    Requests should be submitted to your CV Counselor via email between March 4th -May 22nd. Once approved, students will need to submit the forms and register with the outside provider directly. Space is not guaranteed and CVHS is not responsible for any outside schools/program policies. Submit approval requests early to account for time needed to register with the other school. 

    Steps for submitting requests:

    1. Please print the CVHS specific form of the desired program. 
    2. Submit a photo of the signed form to your CVHS counselor's email to obtain CV approval prior to submitting them to the desired program.
    3. After obtaining CVHS approval, submit the forms to the desired school to complete orientation and enrollment. 

    Instructional Dates: Vary by program.  

    Transcripts/grades will automatically be sent to CVHS from the GCC Student Success Center, OFL, or OFY in August. 

     

     

    The Opportunities for Learning and Options for Youth-site based and OFL-ONLINE Charter School programs listed below are free but require students to be at least 14 years of age by July 1st.

    • Orientation: OFL will contact student once forms are uploaded to their website
    • Dates of summer session: July 1st- August 6th  (students should expect to work 4-6 hours per day)

    • Options for Youth: site based program in Pasadena REGISTRATION FORM- (UC approved-not NCAA)-once students complete orientation in May they receive materials to start independent study work on their own. Students must report to the test center location in July to complete all unit exams.

    • Orientation/materials distributed: Begins in May, Scheduled by appointment with OFY
    • Dates of summer session: July 1st- August 14th

    Please note: If students are taking Biology or any other course with GEF or GUSD they will NOT be able to take Health or other courses with OFL online. Students may not be enrolled in another program at the same time as OFL and  students must begin work with OFL on July 1st. 

    However, 9th grade students may take Biology with GEF and Health with GCC-Garfield SSC or with the paid BYU Independent Study program during the same dates. OFY-Pasadena will allow a delayed start date for Health if students take Bio with GEF from 6/15-7/17 and then Health from 7/18-8/14 but it is not recommended. 10th grade students may take Biotech with GUSD and another course with GEF or GCC Garfield concurrently if approved by the CV counselor. 

     

     GCC Garfield Student Success Center: REGISTRATION FORM a free independent study program. Students complete all work and tests at the Center at their own pace. Call GCC-SSC to schedule orientation once forms are signed. The GCC Garfield Student Success program does not have an age restriction and is acceptable for any incoming or continuing CV student. 

     

    ANY OTHER PROGRAMS:

    • If desired, students may take classes with other accredited online or public schools other than those listed above. Submit the Non-GUSD approval form with any other documents to the CVHS Counselor's email. 
    • Students wishing to take any courses with BYU Independent Study, including Health 041, should submit the non-GUSD approval form above before registering or paying online with BYU. BYU courses are fee-based online courses and also require students to take the BYU final exam in person with a BYU approved proctor. 
    • It is the student's responsibilty to verify the accreditation and UC or NCAA status. It is also the student's responsiblity to submit official transcripts/grades at the end of summer for any programs not listed above. 

     

     

     FRIDAY, MAY 22nd, is the last day to get approval from a CVHS counselor for any non-GUSD or non-GEF summer school programs. Remember, once you email the request form to the CV counselor, you must wait for a reply of approval and then complete registration directly with the non-GUSD school by their deadlines. CVHS is not responsible for enrollment, grades, or programs outside of GUSD and is providing the information above as a courtesy to families.
