Glendale Unified School District is implementing a new visitor management process which will enable each elementary school to screen all visitors against nationwide sexual offender registries and establish a consistent sign-in process across the district. The goal is to enhance the safety and security of both students and staff by preventing access to those who should not enter our schools.
Our parent-run volunteer Foundation is launching our fall funds drive for 2019-2020. We heard you: too many events, too little time, so we're trying something different this year. If every family at Franklin donates $285 per student, we can hit our fundraising goal for the entire year and be done this fall.
The Glendale Unified School District extends their deepest gratitude to Fondazione Italia for their generous grant to the Italian program at Franklin Magnet School, Toll Middle School, and Hoover High School. The grant funds are generously provided by the Italian government under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles. Through their financial support, the district is able to fund teaching assistants who are native speakers of Italian in the elementary program and help supplement the funding for the secondary Italian teacher as the program grows. Their contribution is instrumental to the success of the Italian program throughout the district, and GUSD is thankful for their ongoing partnership.
We are pleased to announce that Franklin Magnet School received a grant from the FACE Foundation for the 2019-2020 school year. These funds will be used to host a French program Teaching Intern to enhance classroom instruction as a language and cultural ambassador. This is the second consecutive year Franklin has earned the FACE Foundation grant for instructional support in French!
