Horace Mann Elementary Named 2023 National Blue Ribbon School
The 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognized 353 schools, including 28 schools in California. Mann Elementary has been recognized in the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category. This is the first time the school has received this honor. Ten Glendale Unified Schools have earned the National Blue Ribbon distinction since the program began in 1982.

Glendale Unified Middle & High Schools Rank Among Nation's Best by U.S. News & World Report
According to U.S. News & World Report rankings methodology, the highest ranked schools, “are those whose students demonstrated outstanding outcomes above expectations in math and reading state assessments, earned qualifying scores in an array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.”

Glendale Unified Superintendent Dr. Vivian Ekchian Announces Retirement
At the June 20 Glendale Unified Board of Education meeting, Dr. Vivian Ekchian announced she will be retiring from her role as superintendent of GUSD, effective June 30, bringing to a close her 38-year career in public education.

She will join her fellow GUSD Board Member and current Delegate Assembly Member Shant Sahakian as one of 11 Delegates representing the San Gabriel Valley and East Los Angeles regions.

Glendale Unified Reaches Tentative Agreement with Glendale Teachers Association
The tentative agreement includes three separate compensation increases for GTA members: a 4.5% one-time compensation increase for the 2020-21 school year, a 3.5% ongoing raise retroactive to the 2021-22 school year, and a 5% ongoing raise in the current 2022-23 school year.

The California Distinguished Schools Program recognizes California elementary schools that have made exceptional gains in implementing academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. Elementary and secondary schools are recognized in alternate years.

California Credit Union Donates $10,000 to Expand Mental Health Services at Glenoaks Elementary
This will be the first wellness room designed specifically for elementary school students in Glendale Unified. The district has previously opened wellness rooms at the high school and middle school levels.
