Middle School Instructional Programs Text Version Directory

Instructional programs in the middle schools have a dual focus:

1. Continue to develop students’ skills in literacy — reading and language — as well as writing and mathematics; and

2. Prepare students academically for higher education, while providing a firm foundation in helping them plan for a vocation, career and life’s goals.

In the middle schools (grades 7-8), the district strives to provide guidance that is so important during the years when students are "caught in the middle" between childhood and becoming a young adult. Standard requirements are the following courses:

Seventh Grade — English, mathematics, world history/social studies, science, physical education and one elective. (Elective choices include art, instrumental music, industrial arts, home arts, developmental reading, English as a second language or foreign language).

Eighth Grade — English, Mathematics, Science, U.S. History and Government, Physical Education and one elective. (Elective choices include Art, Instrumental Music, industrial arts, Typing, home arts, developmental reading, English as a Second Language or foreign language.)
