Special education in the Glendale Unified School District helps disabled students to attain their highest potentials in the "least restrictive environment" during their infant to school-age years (birth to age 22).
Many students are able to integrate their special education instruction with participation in the regular classroom. This is encouraged whenever possible, and youngsters are urged, based on their abilities, to be involved in everything they can on campus.
Several programs and services are provided for students in the following categories of disabilities:

The following options are available to students who are identified and qualify for special education instruction:

Resource Specialist Program
Provided by resource specialist teachers to students who are assigned to regular classroom teachers for the majority of the school day.

Designated Instruction and Services
May be provided by the regular classroom teachers, resource specialist, special day class teacher or designated instructional specialist. Services include speech and language instruction, adaptive physical education, home or hospital teaching, physical and occupational therapy. If no appropriate special education program exists in the district, the option to enroll disabled students in other public school districts, state special schools, or non-public schools certified by the state is made available.

Special Day Classes
Provided to students whose disabilities necessitate that they must be instructed by special education teachers for the majority of the school day.

Special Center/College View School
A student may be placed in this setting to meet their unique individualized needs. College View is a separate facility from other GUSD campuses.

Non-Public School - NPS
When student needs cannot be met through GUSD placement options, students may be directed to specialized schools, facilities and programs outside the District.

Further information may be obtained by contacting the Special Education Office at the Administration Center.
