EEELP Employment EEELP Programs About EEELP EEELP Sites

A Long Tradition of Helping Children and Families

The district’s Early Education & Extended Learning Programs Department provides high quality preschool and child development services to the children in the community. Multiple programs are offered for students in grades K-8 plus preschool for children ages 3 and 4.

The programs are:
Recreational After-School Program (RAP)
Features three hours of supervised recreation after-school activities (2:30 to approximately 5:30 p.m.) for students in grades 1-6 at most elementary schools. RAP begins at the year-round schools when classes open in July and at schools on traditional schedule in September. The program includes a light snack and assistance with homework. A nominal fee is charged per week, and children are registered on a week-to-week basis.

Before/After-School Learning & Safe Neighborhoods Partnership Program
Free program in remaining elementary schools and some middle schools ensures a safe environment after school for improved student performance.

State Preschool
Provides a half-day state subsidized program for 3- and 4-year-old children from low-income families at selected sites. Programs are available either in the morning or afternoon and focus on preparing children for kindergarten. No fee is charged.

State Subsidized Child Care
Preschool and elementary school-age students (K-6) from low-income, working families may qualify on a space-available basis. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays year-round except most school holidays. Students may attend before school and/or after school. Parents may pay for a portion of the tuition based on a sliding scale related to their income. The State of California subsidizes the remainder of the cost.

Self-Supporting Child Care
Elementary school age (K-6) child care is open to parents regardless of income. Enrollment is based on space-availability at selected schools. Fees are based on operating costs. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Young Parent Development Programs
Provide specialized instruction to meet the learning needs of pregnant or parenting teens enrolled at Daily High School and their infant or toddler. Teen parents learn to care for their children and how to be the child’s "first teacher."

Further information on all preschool, before and after school, and child care during vacation programs may be obtained by contacting the Early Education & Extended Learning Programs Office at the Administration Center.
