Supporting every successful corporation, organization or school district are well-defined strategies that guide everyday operations and light the way to the future. Glendale Schools 2005, a second-generation, cutting-edge strategic plan developed by district staff, parents, students and community representatives is the district’s "road map" that addresses such critical questions as:

  • What do we want our students to know and be able to do?
  • How can we best make this happen?

Strategic planning in the Glendale Schools rivals most major corporate efforts. Glendale Schools 2005 specifies a series of targets for schools and district strategies for helping schools meet those targets. Updated in the spring of 2002, the plan is organized into six "strategic directions," which are summarized as follows:

  1. Standards, Assessment & Accountability
    • Meet or exceed annual targets in language arts and mathematics in state testing, including Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) and the California High School Exit Exam.
    • Meet annual targets on the state Academic Performance Index (API).
    • Provide all students with opportunities to experience a challenging, standards-based curriculum.
  2. Teaching and Learning
    • Demonstrate that all teachers follow Glendale Standards for Educators to enhance student learning.
    • Provide all students access to a library media center, technology and instruction to enable them to meet district content standards.
    • Implement strategies of the district’s High School Blueprint.
  3. Professional Development
    • Provide assistance, coordination and sufficient time for ongoing professional training for employees.
  4. Connections and Communications
    • Support connections with businesses, organizations and other entities to enhance student learning and activities.
  5. Leadership, Governance and Finance
    • Implement shared decision-making procedures at each school to improve student learning.
  6. School Climate, Safety and Facilities
    • Maintain clean, attractive school campuses.
    • Ensure safe, secure and healthful conditions at all schools and other district sites.
    • Provide up-to-date equipment and facilities.
