Board of Education
{BoardOfEd}
Trustees are elected by the voters to establish the educational policies of the district. The Superintendent is employed to administer the schools and carry out these policies with the aid of the professional staff.
The Superintendent informs and advises the Board on education-related matters and recommends action based on the input of staff and often with the guidance of parents, community and other sources. Board members are elected at-large to four-year terms and receive minimum compensation as prescribed by state law. Board elections are held on the first Tuesday in April of odd-numbered years (2007, 2009, etc.). All meetings, by law, are open to the public. Closed sessions are permitted to allow Board members to address such matters as collective bargaining, confidential student or personnel actions, and items related to litigation. Regular meetings are televised live and replayed on GREG-tv (Charter Cable Channel 15 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99). The president is the presiding officer and has identical voting rights as the remainder of the Board. Three trustees constitute a quorum and may take action on most items. A high school student elected by the district’s Student Advisory Council also serves on the Board of Education in a non-voting capacity. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
