Its purpose is to improve the education, physical health, mental health, and social outcome of children and families by empowering families to make positive decisions regarding the immediate and long range need of their children’s health and welfare; and to establish ongoing collaboration with public and private agencies that support family services.
Collaborative meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month starting October through May. We encourage you to become a member of our Collaborative. Direct Services
Food drives and one toy drive are organized annually in collaboration with PTA.
Food is gathered at the participating school sites and picked up by FASO staff for distribution from Healthy Start Family Resource Center during the drive week. Leftover food is stored and distributed to families in need on monthly basis.
The Center also has three Nationally Certified Application Assistants to assist families with the completion of health insurance applications for the Medi-Cal and Healthy Families health insurance programs.
Through a grant under the Immediate Needs Transportation Program of International Institute of Los Angeles, the Center provides transportation assistance in the form of bus tokens on bimonthly basis.
PACE program identifies and welcomes students living in transition. It ensures that schools facilitate the enrollment process for those students as required by the McKinney Vento Act. Program staff member completes a needs assessment for each child identified and assists each family to access the appropriate and available resources.
