We partner with our educators to teach your children

• Our students plan our menus every month! Each month a class of students participates in our menu planning. They are learning to make healthy choices using the foods they love to eat.

• We introduce nutrition and healthy eating using the Harvest of the Month Program via the Nutrition Network Grant.

• We support the District’s Wellness Policy which established goals for nutrition education, physical activity, other school based activities and nutrition guidelines for all the available foods served on school campuses.

Did you know?

• We are the largest restaurant in the Glendale community serving an average of 20,000 meals daily.

• All school breakfasts and lunches must meet dietary guidelines for calories, fat, saturated fat and 6 other essential nutrients.

• Second Chance Breakfast is offered at some of the elementary sites in support of student Achievement.

• Our Elementary Schools offer 6 entrees daily and the Secondary Schools offer 12 to 15 entrees daily

• Garden Bars are offered daily with an expanded availability of fresh fruits and vegetables.

 


Fast Facts about our Food

• Only 1% and nonfat milk, water, electrolyte beverages, 100% fruit juice drinks and fruit smoothies are offered and may be part of the combo meal.

• Low fat and non fat dressings are offered daily.

• Soy products are introduced as a meal alternative and used to reduce fat in items such as hamburger patties.

• Freshly prepared salads are offered including water packed Tuna, Taco, Chinese and Chicken Caesar salad.

• Most of the cheese products are made with lowfat cheese including our homemade pizzas.

• Turkey products offered in many of our entrees including taco meat and spaghetti meat sauce.

• Increased offering of vegetarian food items such as Veggie Pizza, Yogurt, fruit bowl, Veggie Rice Bowl, Veggie California Rolls, Garden Bar, Veggie Pasta Bowl and Veggie Plate.

• Whole grain and wheat products are gradually being introduced to our students and staff such as sandwich bread, assorted types of Pasta and rice.

• Healthy cooking techniques such as baking instead of frying are used on all breaded items.
